Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
